  • L249: One-way traffic between Heimbach and Mariawald Abbey

On Mariawalder Straße (L249) in Heimbach, the previous alternating traffic system with temporary traffic lights has been replaced by a one-way arrangement. Landslides have narrowed the roadway so two-way traffic is no longer possible and emergency vehicles could not get through quickly when facing oncoming traffic. Until slope stabilisation works begin, L249 is only open from Heimbach toward Mariawald Abbey. Traffic from Schleiden toward Heimbach is diverted via the L15 (Kermeter); access to the abbey from Schleiden remains possible via Mariawalder Straße. A protective lane for cyclists runs in both directions in the closed section; further information is available from Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW, Regionalniederlassung Ville-Eifel, on 02251-796-0.
